Film Poster research

I've been looking more into what ideas I have for my film poster. I was still a bit unsure on what I wanted to do for it or what style I wanted to do it in. I decided to type in to Google 'teen movie posters' and I found two posters that looked perfect! The two posters that really caught my eye were for The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Diary of a Teenage Girl. The styles are simple but still are eye catching. I like the fact that they are looking into the camera, and we can see the personalities of the characters just by standing/sitting there in front of the camera. I also really love the text and the type writer font.

I think I could try to create a poster like this, I would find a wall in school and shoot some pictures in front of that. I am thinking of maybe using a chalk board as the wall, we could write I Wish You Were Here and draw pictures, to make the poster stand out more.
I really love this idea and I can't wait to try it out.

Diary - Magazine and poster

I have been thinking more about my ideas for my magazine and poster and have been doing some research on magazines or posters that could I could recreate or be inspired by. I have been looking at a few magazines like Variety and The Hollywood reporter and deciding how I can shoot or design my cover.

I also researched some teen drama posters and I have found a few that I really like:

Hopefully these real media texts will help to inspire some ideas for my magazine and poster when I begin to shoot, edit and create them.

First draft of my trailer

This is my first draft of my trailer I Wish You Were Here.

I haven't completed all of my filming yet as I am trying to arrange a date with Casey to do more filming. I have edited all of the scenes so far though and I am really liking how it is all coming together. There are some scenes that I decided against, for example, when Ellie and Casey plant a tree as I felt like it didn't really flow well in the trailer.

I added some inter titles, but I feel like I should work on these a little bit more and perhaps add a few more. I also included some non-copyright music that I really thing brings the whole trailer together to set an overall feel.

I added a few voiceovers throughout the trailer, however I might tweak some of these as I near the end to make sure I am 100% happy.

I will show this trailer to my friends and see if they have any feedback or constructive criticism, in order to get some audience feedback.

Diary - Filming in USA

Over my holiday, I filmed a little bit but not as much as I anticipated. I filmed the scenes at the airport where I stand by the window and watch the planes and also got some footage of the plane taking off although it is slightly blurry.
During my time in Vegas, I got a few shots of the scenery and one shot of myself, which I could incorporate.
I also filmed in Disneyland by the castle however over the two days I went, it was incredibly busy therefore I could't really get a range of shots. For the shots of scenery, I am thinking of adding a voice over perhaps saying "Look Casey, I'm in Disneyland, tick this off the list, I wish you were here!" for example.
Overall, I'm slightly disappointed with the amount of footage I got, however I will try my best to make it work and I'm sure I can make it look good through editing.

Intertitle analysis

I analysed the inter titles of the trailer for The Spectacular Now, because this is an independent film that is of a similar genre to mine, a teen drama.

The first inter-title that is presented in the trailer is telling the audience that the film's writers also wrote '500 Days of Summer', another independent film. This will engage audiences, especially those who have seen and like 500 Days of Summer. This targets a specific audience.

The next inter-title shows that this film won an award at Sundance Festival, which shows that it was widely appreciated at this festival. This also establishes an audience, those who like winners from Sundance or those who like the Sundance Festival.

The next three inter-titles include reviews of the film, including positive comments about the actors and director. These reviews come from Rolling Stone Magazine, Collider and Filmmaker magazine. These are targetted at specific audiences and film lovers, therefore could attract a slightly more niche market.

The next inter-title is the title of the film. The title is in bold and the 'now' is really big, this draw attention to the title and look as if the text is jumping out at you.

The last inter-title is the date of release which is really important, notifying eager audiences when they can see this film.

From this analysis, I have decided that in my trailer I'm going to have 'From the makers of...", as well as a few reviews from magazines/news papers/websites. I also need to decide a 'release date' for my trailer to put at the end. I might decide to use a colour scheme like this trailer, which uses white and yellow, although I will decide which colours look better when editing.

Institution research

Powered by emaze
After doing some research, I decided to use the institution 'Indian Paintbrush' to produce my film as I want to recreate the style of films that they create and produce.

Diary - Filming day 2

I decided to try and get the majority of my filming done with Casey today as it would save us having to keep arranging dates which could have been complicated or difficult to arrange. In these scenes I had to shoot myself and Casey sitting in her house, then looking through photo albums to find a list. That was my main aim for the trailer as I wanted to explain the storyline.
Then I had to include the key scene of Ellie telling Casey that she is going to America, this scene was shot in Casey's room however, half through filming my camera ran out of battery and I did not have the charger with me. This was a bit of a setback as it would mean i would have had to go home to get the charger then wait for the camera to charge. However, I resolved this problem by using Casey's phone to film. Her phone is high quality, but the sound was a bit quieter than the camera, however this is easily changed in editing. Another scene we filmed was with Casey's mum.
After that Casey and I recorded ourselves doing the things on 'the list', for example eating ice cream, dancing and giving each other makeovers. I will try and find space in the trailer for a few of these scenes to show the friendship of the two girls.
Overall, we had a successful day of filming and the next time I will be filming is in America!
